The other day I dreamed of things going all wrong at my new job. I don't remember the details, but at the time it was pretty realistic.

I believe that the idea behind 'Total Recall' isn't unrealistic at all. I mean, who hasn't had a dream that they thought was real? So how would it be if you can, like, control what you dream.
Sooner or later some smart scientist are going to turn this into a commercial product. Of course it will have to be cheaper than the actual physical trip to some holiday resort. Then people can save time but still have the whole recollection of the holliday or whatever they experienced when paying for the 'Total Recall' service..
