But that time the target market was professional investors. The latter tended to be not so keen on the idea because that meant more workload for them. The stocks they researched were carfully chosen and didn't matter much if it change prices in short time span, they were in for the long term.
Instead, the longer trading hours are targeted at the amateur stock gambler (or investor) who work during the day and only have time to trade after work. And there are much more of them then they used to, thanks to the internet and companys which offer online trading.
